Daniel uses his distinctive graphic style to create unique designs and illustrations for his ever-growing portfolio of public and private sector clients, as well as developing his own book projects and diverse creative interests. Drawing is the foundation of every project and he loves designing for print, producing handwritten typography and favours traditional working methods and materials, including wood carving, clay and assemblage.

His preferred drawing technique is mixed media - pen & ink, pencils, gouache, acrylic, chalk, watercolours and collage, all employed in the creation of surreal characters, environments and narratives packed with intricate detail and humour. He divides his creative studio time between the North East (Morpeth, Northumberland) and North West (Kendal, Cumbria), UK.

Daniel's clients operate within the following sectors; Wildlife Conservation, Museums & Heritage, Print & Publishing, Local Authority, Registered Charities, Participatory Workshops, Education & Community Outreach, Public Health & Wellbeing.

His clients include; Action for Children, Alnwick Playhouse, Bedford Borough Council, Berwick Visual Arts, The Bookseller, CBN / Creative Book Northumberland, Creative Cocoon, Darlington Libraries, English Heritage, Fox Searchlight UK, HTC, Lazy Grace, Lets Live Here, Live Theatre, MSC Cruises, Muse Developments Ltd, Museums Northumberland, Newcastle Business School, NHS Northumberland CCG, Northumberland County Council, Northumberland Wildlife Trust, North Lincolnshire Council, Penguin Books, Select Psychology, Stockton Borough Council / SIRF, St. Oswalds Hospice, Stephen Fry, The Printing Charity and Xtrax.

Daniel launched Penquill in 2023, an apparel label and platform to further share illustrations from his extensive personal archive and promote new designs. You can find him over on instagram @penquill_pictorial and for new commissions he is best reached via email / tel.

Email and telephone enquiries are followed by an initial consultation (either in person or via tel/web chat) to discuss project design briefs and required creative deliverables in more detail. The design process then begins, with the creation of draft layouts which are submitted for consideration and sign-off, before progression to mixed media / colour / digital work. Finished artworks and graphics are supplied digitally in formats suitable for both print and web. Client artworks are also archived digitally upon project completion.

When not designing and illustrating, Daniel can be found exploring the Northumberland coastline and Lake District, completing 5k Park Runs, working on his carpentry projects and tinkering with old mechanical things.
